‎*TIP FROM THE TRENCHES* 8*: A couple of days ago… I was speaking to a very established —and highly paid. Copywriter I know. He was telling me about the controls he’s written for Agora…Nightingale Contant etc. I congratulated him on his success and asked about the other MAJOR mailers like: Boardroom, Healthy Directions, Rodale etc. His exact words were… “you will find them hard to get work from them. It’s virtually impossible unless you’re one of the very best writers on the planet.”

…That was HIS paradigm. - his prison.

Probably passed to him by the person he was trained by. Fortunately I learned at an early age never to believe ANYONE who wishes to put limits on what YOU can do.

This is exactly what Steve Jobs meant when he said “Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.”

So if you’re currently hanging around with ANYONE who keeps saying to you, you’ll never do this…or you’ll never be able to do that - - I advise you distance yourself from these people.

They may not intentionally mean you harm.
But they will harm you just the same.

P.S. Two days after this conversation with my copywriter friend, I was speaking with the executive VP of Boardroom, who was interested in my work. Impossible? Fuck off!

15:27, restate my assumptions: 1. You can spend your life tracking competitors links and have nothing to show for it. 2. A link is like a vote. Don’t sit there and count everyone else’s focus on your own otherwise you will never win. 3. If it isn’t indexed it doesn’t count, however you dress it up.

11:15, restate my assumptions: 1. Mathematics is the language of nature. 2. Everything around us can be represented and understood through numbers. 3. If you graph these numbers, patterns emerge. Therefore: There are patterns everywhere in nature.
